Emergency standby backup power system for the upgrade the Fairfax Government Center Generator System

Curtis Engine supplied and Cynergy Electric installed two new 1,500 kW diesel generator sets for the Fairfax County Facilities Management Division to renovate and upgrade the Fairfax Government Center Generator System. The project improved the effectiveness and reliability of the Government Center Emergency and Standby Power Infrastructure. The project comprised of replacing the existing (2) 1,100kW diesel generators with larger 1,500kW diesel gensets, enlarging the existing generator room, separating Life safety and Standby systems, and the addition of a building chiller and cooling tower to the standby power system.

In addition to furnishing the new MTU Onsite Energy 1,500kW diesel generators, Curtis Engine supplied (2) 260 gallon diesel day tanks, a custom 5,000 amp parallel switchgear lineup, and (9) ASCO Series 7000 automatic transfer switches with bypass isolation. Curtis Engine also provided commissioning and testing services to complete the project.
