mtu Generator Sets for New Regional Utility Plant at UNC Charlotte

The UNC Charlotte RUP project includes a new 120,000 sqft science facility for the university along with a 6,000 sqft regional utility plant and a 3,000 sqft data center. The university’s student population continues to grow enrolling 30,448 students for the fall 2021 semester, setting a University record for the third consecutive year. This expansion will help keep up with the demand for additional academic space and necessary regional utility support for the increasing number of student living facilities.

Feature UNCC 01

The Curtis Power Solutions team was able to deliver, commission and test the onboard paralleling system ensuring that the sequence of operations functioned as designed. The multi-unit set-up also features a unique auto-syphon fuel arrangement that offers a high level of reliability without adding complexity, as it allows all three generator sets to share the fuel source without pumps or switches. This provides ensured system availability in case of any component failure.
